PAST

Winemaking at St. Ignatius has a prestigious and proud background, spanning over three continents and many generations. Enrique’s Grandfather Fernando, a winemaker in the Reggio Emilia (Parma-Italy), migrated to Argentina where he imprinted the esteemed Diaz name in Argentina’s winemaking industry. Indeed, it seemed winemaking was the perfect industry for the Diaz family who now resides in Victoria.

Enrique, who chose to follow in his Grandfather’s footsteps in Avoca, established St. Ignatius Vineyard. It was in this where Enrique produced a total commitment to producing premium wines. The vineyard was established in an area known for the famous Clare Castle Gold Rush of 1859, in the viticultural region called the “Pyrenees”. Planting began in 1992, with the inaugural vintage coming in 1997. Currently St. Ignatius holds 25 Acres of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Sangiovese, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and a range of upcoming exotic varieties. St. Igantius Trade Marks; Hangmans Gully & Gold Rush, commemorate yet another migration, the settlement of thousands of miners attracted to the Pyrenees in late 1859 and symbolise the rich culture behind the business.
